One of my hens today is suddenly acting lethargic. I didn't notice her like that yesterday. I was able to walk right up to her and pick her up without her running away or putting up a fuss. She's not holding her tail up high like she usually does. I put some amoxicillin in the water with her, and crushed up a calcium tablet and put it in there too. She laid an egg two days ago. I felt around her vent and I don't feel any eggs. I put some mealy worms in the pen and she won't touch them. I separated her from the others in the pen. It's impossible to get an immediate appointment with my vet. Does anyone know what is going on?

She's new. I got her as a chick last spring, so she just started laying. Only about 3 eggs so far, but I noticed that the 3 eggs she did lay had a very thick shell. She got a pretty good dose of the calcium. She is still not eating anything except the oyster shells she seems more attracted to. I have her sleeping in my smaller chicken coop tonight by herself. I will see how she looks tomorrow morning. She did start looking much better after she drank more. She started to raise her tail high. Tomorrow morning if she doesn't go for the mealy worms, I'll give her a good dose of calcium with an eye dropper. My calcium pills are 600 mg. I'll break one in half. I just don't want to overdose her on them. Pretty sure it was a calcium deficiency. I'll see tomorrow. Let you all know then.

I would give her the calcium orally 300 mg and also give the amoxicillin orally 250 mg twice a day for 7-10 days. Putting it in the water would take too much time to get into her. How old is she? Does she have any enlargment of her lower belly below her vent? What do her poops look like?

I gave her 250 amoxicillin with 300 calcium this morning. But she was eating at 6:10 this morning when I let her out of the coop by herself. She is not acting sick at all today, but when she laid an egg this morning the shell was very thin. When I checked the coop I noticed see does have diarrhea. I do have Corid 9.6 oral solution. I don't know if I should start that treatment.
