Chirping
Hi, I have a black Sexlink (black with agreen hue in her feathers). She's usually the leader of the hens. She tends to get broody. The last two weeks she picked out her belly feathers again and would move others eggs over to her laying area to sit on them. She's barely eat, but I'd remove the eggs and sweetly put her down to the food and she'd eat and then go take a big first bath before foraging a little and generally an hour or so later and she'd be back up there again. The last three days, I noticed she'd be laying there even if there wasn't an egg under her. I'd pick her up ( She'd always do an annoyed noise and a growl-type noise) , but instead of flapping to get down, she'd happily let me hold her. My other chickens do this, but this one usually isn't very snuggly at all. The last three days, she'd let me hold her until I finally put her down, no matter how long. Then she'd walk off and have a long dust bath. I thought she was just broody.
Today though, I was giving the girls cooked egg yokes and she didn't come. She wasn't in the hen house. She was laying in one of the kids playhouses on the ground. I threw some egg to her and she never tried to get it it even turn her head for it or anything. Over and over I tried. Nothing. I held her and she is very lethargic. She soon falls asleep and laid with me for over an hour. I have her water ( she drank a lot) and offered her wet chicken feed ( she ate none). The water felt like it was stuck in a balloon under the surface of her chest. Maybe this is normal? I flipped her over and she just laid there and let me. This doesn't seem normal but I've never done that before. The bottoms of her feet are fine. Her crop seems fine. I tried to look at her vent but couldn't find it. In my search for it, she began "leaking" water from her mouth and out her vagina. It smelled gross like old-people-urine-diapers. I set her in the coop and she stood there. It's an hour later and she's still standing there, not laying, not moving, not eating or drinking. I'm trying to find a vet. Is there anything I can do? Do you think she is going to die? Poor sweet girl. I feel so bad that I just thought she was broody. I have four other chickens. All seem healthy. I have been getting 4-5 eggs a day, mainly 4. Her feathers look shiny and healthy and she appears of good weight, but that's hard to tell. Please help me to help her. I feed all organic food... we live in Florida, it's like 65 degrees and beautiful here... not sure what what to mention. Thank you so much for any help.
