Hi everyone,

I have my first sick lady. She's 10 mo. old, Buff Orpington. She's had a dirty butt for some time, but now she's actually got diarrhea, is extremely lethargic, and won't eat. I noticed her poop yesterday was clear and maybe a little foamy with just urates, but other than that, she seemed to be acting normal. We gave them some pumpkin yesterday and I think she ate a little, but I'm not 100% sure.

This morning there was snow and no one wanted to go out in the run, so they all were in the coop. I took them out some leftovers and moved their food and water into the coop this morning and everyone came to eat and drink but her. She was huddled, all puffed up in the corner by herself, head down. Same poop. I brought her inside and she's now in the house in a dog crate. I gave her electrolytes in her water and she's been drinking but still hasn't eaten all day. Not even treats. She's still huddled and puffed up. I'm attaching pix of her and the poop, although the poop is on a black towel, so you can't see the clear and it's a little more yellowish now.

The other strange thing is that a couple days ago, she laid an egg that had only a very thin outer layer and broke in the nesting box. I'm 99.9% sure it was her, because she was the last to lay and actually stayed in the box at bedtime and didn't roost for a couple hours, and then I found it the next morning.

No one else (6 other hens and a roo) is affected. Everyone else is acting normal, eating, drinking, pooping normal. Their run is enclosed, crushed gravel sand in the run and coop. No trauma, but it's been very cold. She does have a naked spot on her back, as she's the roo's fave lady, but nothing else physically that I can see.

The yellow urates in her dropping are concerning, and could be a sign of a reproductive disorder or liver problems related to that. Does she have any enlargement of her lower belly? I would offer mushy wet chicken feed up to her beak often. A bit of cooked egg would be good. If you have poultry NutriDrench, give her 1 ml twice a day orally.

Thank you for the reply. Yeah, I'm concerned for sure. Could it be some kind of infection in her reproductive system? I didn't notice her belly feeling enlarged but am going to examine her again in the morning and will offer her scrambled egg as well. Is NutriDrench the same as Rooster Booster? That's what I currently have in her water.

Ok, so I checked her out again this morning. Her belly does not feel hard or soft. Feels just right. She's not swollen anywhere. Her crop is smaller than it was yesterday, hard and round, and just felt like an empty crop. I cleaned and trimmed the poopy feathers on her butt, but her vent was perfectly clean, a light pink, and opened and closed when I was cleaning her feathers. She's still pooping just liquid with urates, but there's a bit of mucus/slime and no foam.

She's still drinking the Rooster Booster water, but still not eating. I tried feeding her scrambled egg, a bit of yogurt, and wet mash, but she wouldn't accept any of it. She did walk out of the crate today to check out her surroundings a bit and sat in my lap and explored (and pooped on) the couch, so a little more alert but mostly still sitting or standing puffed up and eyes closed.

Of note, everyone else is still acting perfectly normal, eating and drinking. Also, no one has any mites, ticks, lice, or anything.

There's so many things it "could be" from my research, but I can't figure out if I should try a medication or not and if so, which one. ☹️

I also should have included that they were all vaccinated for coccidia, but could she have still gotten it? If so, can I treat her with Corid?
