Lethargic chicken, won't eat, diarrhea

Did the vet tell you to stop giving vitamins while she's on Corid? Corid loses its effectiveness if thiamine is given at the same time.

How is she behavior-wise? I usually call it if they mostly stop moving and continually look droopy and depressed.

Yes, she told me. She's definitely still droopy and looking depressed and barely moving around. She mostly sleeps. I even put on a you tube video of chickens for her yesterday to see if that would pep her up a bit. I would bring in one of her sisters if it would help and I knew for sure they couldn't catch whatever she's got going on, but I don't want to take that chance without knowing for sure what it is.

IF it is something contagious the other chickens likely have it already because she was with them recently. I'm sorry she hasn't improved. Are you considering having a necropsy done if she passes?

We did discuss ponazuril and toltrazuril but she didn't want to give them I think because of the dosage with her weight being low. I can't afford the $895 for a tube online either. She thinks she's not eating due to just feeling crappy from the anemia and said if the meds start working, she will start eating on her own, but we'll see. I may try to force feed if she doesn't start soon.

I do regularly check for mites and no one has had them. The doctor checked her too and saw no signs.

She's inside the house, so no need for a heater.
both Ponazuril and toltrazuril are relatively harmless and a lot less harmful than corrid. Ponazuril and Toltrazuril are the only medications that actually kill the coccidia protozoa. i have given ponazuril to 3 day old chicks and saved them. had all the indications of coccidia - it turn out to be salmonella which ponazuril also treats.

a heat source helps the body to maintain homeostasis so they can focus on healing and not maintain body temp.

what is a tube online? you mean a feeding tube ? who is your vet? seriously. if you’d are talking about a feeding tube then that pricing is outrageous as a feeding tube is less than 20 dollars including the syringe. if you’d like to learn how to do a feeding tube i can definitely teach you virtually but just syringe feeding is what i did for my hen who could not eat due to the antibiotics she was on (you just put smashed food in the bottom of the beak). from your response your vet does not seem to be well informed in avian medicine.

I had looked up Marquis, the brand name for ponazuril, and the price at Valley Vet Supply was $895 for a tube of the Marquis. Maybe it's cheaper somewhere else, but that was my first thought since I've bought from them before.

I can put a space heater by the crate, I just didn't think it was necessary, given that we keep the house at 65°.

The vet taught me how to give the liquid meds properly and safely, so I've fed her little bits of water and canned (paté) cat food the same way.

The vet I saw seemed to know what she was doing and is the only vet anywhere in my area that sees poultry, so I didn't have any other options either way.

yikes! Your vet can prescribe pomazuril. The place i got ponazuril without a script in the past nolonger carries it but carries toltrazuril. (i’m hoping they will decide to carry it again). toltrazuril and Ponazuril were the same price for me on HorsepreRace.com-

i found this by googling yellow/mucus stool, lethargic and not eating. https://www.justanswer.com/bird-vet/rh76m-chicken-yellow-stool-mucus-not-eating.html

i would not use a space heater unless she can get away from the heat if she gets too hot. i used a heating pad that just stays on (walmart sells it- it’s the least expensive one at i think 15 dollars)

you’re doing a great job and really hope your hen pulls through.

No, I didn't know those existed. I first looked it up in my chicken health handbook, then came here to you all, then the vet.
there is also a facebook page called Chicken vet corners’ vet talk (vet only) vetwhere you can post and get answers from vets.
