Hi everyone,
I’ve got a 2 year old chicken who has stopped eating but is still drinking. She doesn’t seem to be keeping herself very clean and is very lethargic. She keeps resting her eyes. She also appears to be missing a few feathers underneath. This only seems to have come on in the past 12 hours, as she seemed to be perfectly fine yesterday.
Any advice on what might be wrong and how to treat her would be greatly appreciated!

Could she be molting? What do her poops look like? How does her crop feel? Does it feel empty in early morning before she eats or drinks, or is there still something inside? Can you inspect her skin under her vent and elsewhere for any lice or mites? If she has messy vent feathers, I would clean her off with soap and water so that she does not get maggots on her vent. That can cause fly strike. Can you offer some mushy chicken feed and some cooked egg?

I don’t think she’s molting. Her poops are runny and black and white. Her crop currently feels squishy but I’m not sure about earlier this morning as she didn’t seem to be showing any symptoms this morning. Her vent seems to be fine, I can’t see any sign of lice or mites. Her egg shells have been quite soft recently and slightly elongated, she also didn’t lay yesterday. I also have another chicken whose shells are also quite soft at the moment.
