One of our hens seem pretty lethargic, not broody because she is not on any eggs, just not herself... She is a silky cross with deformed feet, free that's why we took her, b/c she would have a good home with 2 kids to love her... any ideas what makes a chicken get lazy one day and not the next? tyia

Odd that she would be different from day to day. Our lethargic birds is a sure sign that they have reached the end of their life span. We have a few old birds amongst young birds and I can tell a few days or a week before they are about to die. They don't move around much and if they do they tend to follow me. Perhaps their way of saying "good-bye" before they go to chicken heaven.
btw.... unfortunately many times free birds are pretty old. Our old birds were also free.
