Several of my approx 4 day old chicks are acting lethargic. They have spent most of the day out with the mom and when I went to check on them they where sitting in various places around chicken coop. My chickens free range during the day and get put up at night. I dont see any kind of wounds. They appear to be slightly panting???? I gave them water off my finger. (they have access to waterers.) The hen doesnt seem to be concerned for the slight chirping fits they have. Then they pass out like it was all they could do, but will move slightly when picked up.
what do I need to do? They dont appear to be chilled. Its a warm sunny 82 Low humidity today here in Central NC. Any advice would be great.

I am not reading anything here that sounds like it is necessarily a problem. Panting can be from too hot under a brooder light, or certain diseases, but it can also be quite normal. It is how they deal with being a little warm. They sound to me like kids who have played hard all day. You should not have a problem with their getting chilled in your climate, if you have a good Mama who takes them under her wing when needed.

Let us know if you have more concerns. And,

I would put apple cider vinegar in all waterers
as they could use the acid in their gut
2 tbsp of ACV to each gallon of water
what kind of chick starter do they eat?
it probably is humid there or are you in the mts of N>Carolina?
keep us postedemail me with any questions
