Lethargic, comb limp, UPDATE!! HOPEFULLY A BIT BETTER!

I am having a similar problem with my 7 month old rooster so I'll be waiting on an answer - i have tried giving him electrolytes, thinking he was dehydrated although it is cooler here than it has been for al ittle bit. He doesn't have a mushy or hard crop but the rest sound similar, he has been down all day today.

No, he is a wyandotte and they have pea or rose type combs that are normally just kind of squished down on top of their heads. So they don't have a comb that would be able to flop over. But it does look wrongly colored to me, it's too dark of a shade of red and that is not it's usual color. i havent' heard gurgly sounds except when I've picked him up and i think i am jsut holding him a little too tight but when he is just sitting, i don't hear gurgles.

yea, I only hear gurgles when I pick her up too. I don't think I sqeeze, but maybe a bit....

I just gave him some more electrolyte water, when i put him back down in the "chicken hospital" he stood up and remained standing, he seems a little more alert. Before when I put him down he would just lay down immediately. So maybe it is helping him.

It's just after 8 pm here so I hate to keep getting him up to give him more water but I think I will do it anyway. If it were earlier in the day I would give him a cool bath - I'm still thinking dehydration or over heated and that is all I know to do.

If he is willing to eat, I bet watermelon and plain yogurt would help.
Hennie is quite alert today. She is eating yogurt and looking around at stuff. Her crop is still golf ball size. guess that confirms that it is not clearing. I dont know what else to do.

Did you check around this site for crop problems? I know some people massage their crops gently to get them going and my local chicken person told me to put just a pinch of cornmeal in their regular food to get their digestion going.

My rooster died early this morning, unfortunately.

Oh sorry to hear about your roo! That is sad.

Hennie seems a bit better today. More energy for sure. Eating more, crumbles, yogurt, oil. Her crop never goes all the way down but obviously most of the food passes.

Fingers still crossed.
