Hello!

Our 1 year old we purchased off someone a bit over a month ago that we've been treating for bumblefoot has now become lethargic. I don't think the lethargy is due to bumblefoot spreading to her bones/blood since it's not that bad. Yesterday morning she seemed completely fine. She ran out across the yard to meet me (with the others) with their pea and ice water treat since it's so hot out here. Throughout the afternoon instead of wandering around with the flock, she was by herself walking slowly, or standing still, or the odd time she was sometimes turning slowly in circles like she was confused. We put her to bed by herself last night and I don't think she moved from the place we set her. We opened the door and she was just standing there with her head tucked in a little bit. We had to move her out of the segregation area as it gets quite hot in there during the day.. now she's just standing in the same spot not really moving. She laid an egg yesterday morning so I don't think she's egg bound. I can't say I've seen her eat since the peas. We let them free range and she hasn't been doing much of that and I haven't seen her go to the food or water.

It's really hot and muggy here right now. All our other chickens and ducks seem to be in good spirits and we're giving them lots of cold water and shade. We'll keep an eye on her and write up any updates or different things we notice. Any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated!

Hi DuckDuckSnooze.. do you have a video of her behavior? If you suspect her to be ill, it might be wise to separate her from the rest untill you know what's wrong.. Poor ducky...
Unfortunately I don't. However she's no longer wandering or doing anything other than standing/lying down. We moved her into her own little pen outside this morning away from the others. She is finally laying down as I hadn't noticed her doing anything but standing for the last 18 hours. I can see her nodding off to sleep currently.

Since we didn't raise her from a duckling like many of the others she's quite skittish around us, but this morning we're able to get right up to her without her running away. She just stands there and lets us pick her up. Poor thing.

Update:

She's having a rough time keeping her balance and she's fallen over quite a few times while readjusting herself. We moved her inside and she's not drinking or eating at all.

We're a little concerned about Marek's but there doesn't seem to be any paralysis. Could be that she ate something on the property that is toxic to her.

Update:

Doesn't look like Marek's because apparently ducks don't tend to get it.

She had a big seizure and a few minutes later she passed away.

Our best guess is she ate something toxic while free ranging. She started showing oddness early yesterday afternoon and a little over a day later she died.

Keep an eye on your other ducks just in case it's something contagious... And for the same reason, make sure you protect yourself... Work as hygienic as possible untill you know it's a one off or some viral / bacterial thing... I'm so sorry for your loss... :hugs
