I'm hoping someone can help me with this. My 9 mo. old Buff Orpington is not acting normal. She is just sitting around with her feathers fluffed and her eyes closed. She isn't sitting on eggs or in the nesting boxes like a broody hen, but she has lost some feathers on her chest and belly. She also has a healing sore in her belly. Not sure what caused it. This morning I went out to feed/ water them and scoop their poop. She was acting fine. She came running out with the other four hens I have (3 BO's, 2 BR's total). She seemed fine. Then my daughter went out to gather eggs around noon and she just sitting in the run with her eyes closed. Hasn't wanted to eat or drink or do much of anything else, unless presented in front of her. She will nibble at the food offered and take sips of water occasionally. I have never wormed them so I got some Wazine 17 and mixed it up. She has taken a couple of sips of that. I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions to help my poor, sweet girl. It's hard to watch. BTW, I feed them organic layer crumbles mixed with some spinach leaves, grapes, some bird seed, dried meal worms, and boiled wheat. Yes, they're spoiled.

Welcome to BYC!

Check her for mite and lice, and it would be best to bring her inside where it's warm Can you take her to a vet?

Here's a pic of her bare belly with the sore visible. I'm gonna put her in the garage where my brooder is and turn a small heater on in there. She's in the coop now and the others don't seem to be bothering her, but it is pretty cold outside now, so the garage may give her a little more warmth. I hesitate to take her to the vet since the last time cost me $85 just to walk through the door. But it may come to that. Thanks for the reply. How do I check her for mites/lice? None of the other girls are experiencing any symptoms.
