Millie update: she is back at the coop and acting pretty happy. We are continuing to give her extra calcium orally and checking to make sure that she is not dehydrated.

And then guess what we found today??? Our very first egg! We are hoping that it came from Millie but it could very well be from one of the other hens. We are so excited and I was able to take the egg to all 27 classrooms and show it off to the students and teachers..they were thrilled! It is now on prominent display in the hallway for the day.

We had to extract the egg but it's out and Millie is doing so much better!! Thank goodness.

I wanted to post these x-rays of the bound egg in Millie.....so fascinating and as you can tell...that sucker was BIG! No wonder she was in agony.

Oh that poor little chicken. I've been somewhat disappointed at the size of the eggs my chickens lay (so far mediums), but after seeing these x-rays I guess it's a blessing! I'm so glad to hear she continues to improve, and hope she has a full recovery.

Can you help me with my Rooster? He's a Crevecoeur, he just stand alone in the corner of the run. I picked him up, he didn't mind much, normaly he does not like it. I don't think he's eaten today, he walked over to the water but never drank any. What can I do. He's only 4 months old.

Check his crop,it should be full during day,and empty over night,if crop does not empty he may have an impacted crop. Check him over for injuries/lice/mites/worms. For lice/mites,look under wings,around base of tail feathers,and around vent area. Are there any other symptoms,how does his poop look,any discharge from eyes/nostrils?

Ifhe has impacted crop, what do I do. I'm going out now to see if it's full. I will check for the mites and lice too. THANK YOU for your help.

Ok the crop feels empty, nothing around the eyes or nose, checked for lice and mite. Nothing. I even compared the crop to my other Crevecoeur. They both feel the same. HELP
