Hi all,
Yesterday when my quail chicks hatched, the fourth one, Pea, came out of his egg with a blood clot-white string still attached to him, whereas none of the other 6 quail had anything like that. He seemed a little bit underdeveloped compared to the others, very lethargic. When his down dried he had a few "thin" patches of fluff on his back where you could see his pink skin underneath. He really perked up last night, but this morning he seems to have gotten worse.

He was eating last night, but I can't get him to eat today. He just wants to sleep. I've had to keep him separated from the others because they keep trampling him and disturbing him. I've managed to get him to lick a tiny bit of water from his beak but he isn't actively drinking either. Is there any tips on how to perk up a chick enough to try and get some food in them?

I'm sorry to hear about Pea.
I think you are doing the best you can. If you have some Poultry Nutri-Drench give him a couple of drops twice a day to see if that helps.
Work on getting fluids into him as well. You can make wet mushy feed as well.
Unfortunately sometimes little ones like this fail to thrive too, so do the best you can, keep him warm and see how it goes.

Are you grinding food to powder consistency? Water warm? What's your heat source? Temp? If doing all above, try Gatorade in warm water. We've given them yolk before too.

Unfortunately Pea passed away the morning after I posted this thread, but thank you for the concern
