Lethargic Rooster (Photos)

The vet called this morning and said his blood test was "all good" except for a high white cell count. So, infection or disease. Taking him in again for fluids, antibiotics, feeding. He's feeling better and is alert but is still limping.

Well, Mr. Wilcox seems bent on breaking my heart. His spirits are better (he crowed once this morning). He even had a little chat with me. But, his leg is worse. Don't know what else to do but wait. He has antibiotics (via injection) and ibuprofen. His poo tests came back normal (still bright green). He's such a pretty boy...too early to ask for Christmas miracle?

Here is an update on Mr. Wilcox. He is still alive but not walking. He will stand for maybe 15 minutes tops. His blood was retested and his high white blood cell count has dropped back to the normal range. So that's promising. His Marek's test came back negative (but the vet did warn me that a false negative is a possibility). He's eating and no longer lethargic. He's being treated for bumble foot now...which the vet thought was not very advanced.
But, hopefully, when that issue is dealt with and his feet are healed, I'll see some improvement. I'm thinking I may own the most expensive rooster in town. lol

Thank you for the update :)
He's a big boy isn't he!
Does he sit most of the day? Have you tried putting him in a sling for short periods of time? Since he is able to stand for a little now, the sling may get him more upright and help reduce fatigue so he can work and strengthen his legs.
I'm hopeful that once his feet heal, he'll make even more improvement.

Greetings! I didn't think about a sling. His left leg (or foot) seems to be the problem. Sometimes he'll stand with it lifted. He staggers when he needs to move just a foot or two. Turning is almost impossible. I'd say he is 2/3 sitting, 1/3 standing.
Thanks for your concern. He goes into the vet again on Friday to get rewrapped. He is a big boy!

Keep us posted on how he's doing.
