I have a bantam silkie rooster who is lethargic at the moment. He has been in and out of his lethargic state and is moving around when i approach his enclosure, but im noticing its getting worse. What should I do?

P.S.
A few months ago he got extremely sick and was administered Amoxicillin. He made a full recovery from that.

Edit: He has a swollen left eye, this also happened when he got sick a few months ago

More information is needed. What is his age? Is he eating and drinking, and what do you feed him? What are his droppings like, and pictures may help. Do you have other roosters or chickens that could be keeping him from eating and drinking? How does his crop feel—empty, full, hard, puffy, or doughy?

He's 1.5 years old. He eats and drinks fine. His diet is mainly corn but I usually give him treats like fruits and occasionally an egg. I own 3 chickens beside him and they're in a separate enclosure. I can't exactly say how it felt but it was full. I doubt its Sour Crop.

Something I recently noticed is that his left eye lids are inflamed and when he got sick a few months ago i noticed the same thing. Its probably due to his feathers rubbing against its eye but i think its worth pointing out.

Thanks for replying!

Most chickens do best on a balanced chicken feed. Corn has few nutrients, half of the protein, and is not a good feed for chickens. Do you live somewhere where chicken feed is not available? Check the crop in the morning before he ats, just to make sure his crop is emptying overnight. Make sure your chickens have poultry grit as well.

A swollen eyelid could be a sign of a respiratory sinus infection or disease. MG or coryza are common ones. Have you seen bubbles in an eye or eye drainage, head shaking, sneezing, or rattly breathing? A respiratory disease may cause lethargy, and sluggishness. If you can post pictures of the eye lid swelling that would be helpful.

Chicken feed is available but i haven't been able to get it for a month or two due to transportation issues. His cage gives him free access to the floor so im guessing he gets his grit. I saw a little bit of eye "crust" close to a feather i believe was stuck. I haven't seen him exhibit the respiratory disease symptoms you mention. At the moment i can't post pictures of him but ill try to as soon as i can.

hello!

I have a rooster experiencing similar issues... do you think antibiotics will be necessary? Swollen eye (slightly improving from the past 24hrs). Very tired and lethargic. Falling asleep and not really eating or drinking.

Can you post pictures of the eye and perhaps start a new thread of your own here in the emergency forum:

We get a little confused about who we are helping if you post on an older thread. Swollen eye with bubbles can be a sign of MG (mycoplasma) a chronic respiratory disease. It might also be a peck wound or something stuck in the eye, or a sting. Antibiotics, such as Tylosin in the water can help. You may get it from a vet or here online:

I did start a new thread, I have yet to have anyone respond yet... so I thought I would comment on an older thread as well.
