I am getting really worried, out of all my chickens it is the one I got for my daughter that something is wrong with. She was doing fine until today, I went to give the morning feed and water and instead of pecking at my coots like normal she just puffed her feathers and sat in one spot, barely moving when I walked around. This afternoon I thought she was dead, she was laying on her side but when I went to pick her up she slowly got up. Right now I have her away from all my other chickens but she just seems to be getting worse. I got her last week from a farm & feed that has a since gone into lockdown due to an outbreak of Coccidia. I am wondering if she could have it. I had already had another sneezy hen so I started them on Duramycin-10 (tetracycline hydrochloride). All my other chickens perked back up except for this girl......wondering if I should be worried. or even if I should attempt something else to nurse her back to health?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi Jessica! It's me, Fran.

I just saw your post and was wondering how your chicken is doing? Is she eating and drinking? Have you noticed how her poo looks? If you can see any of her droppings you can compare them to the poo chart: http://www.chat.allotment.org.uk/index.php?topic=17568.0

If
you still have her with the others you may want to separate her until you know what's going on. My hen is still pretty sick. She's in a box in my living room and won't eat or drink on her own. This morning I was pretty sure she wouldn't make it through the day but she's still hanging in there. She was thrashing around and looked like she was having a seizure or something. I gave her some medicated water with a dropper and that seemed to help but she hadn't really eaten for a few days so she's really weak. I posted earlier myself and got some very helpful advice on feeding her. I went and bought bird formula for hand feeding baby birds. I can mix that with liquid to a consistency that she can handle and dropper it in. That along with her medicated water will hopefully give her some strength to keep fighting.

I'm pretty sure, based on symptoms and her poo that she does have coccocidiousis (I can't even say it, let alone spell it!) I've been giving her Sulmet and now some electrolytes and her formula (just FYI in case you need it.)

I hope your girl feels better soon!

sadly she passed away a little while ago, thanks to chopper my boxer

I had no inkling he would get her in my hot tub room! I put her in there for the warmth and humidity and I feel horrible because I simply made certain of her death rather than preventing it as I thought I was doing. Anita and I are going to grab sulfadimethoxine tomorrow and give it to both of our flocks.....seems we all have it now! What a horrible stress. I should have raised this flock like my flock whenI lived in mexico... no names and no emotional attachment....too late now...and very callous of me to even think it but I am just so upset right now!!!

I am still hoping your girl improves!
