I have a young pullet, about 2 months old that is not doing well. I noticed yesterday evening that she was quite lethargic and didn't move around much. She mostly layed in one spot, but she does move at some point because I find her in different areas of the coop. This morning when I went to check on her and pick her up, I noticed that she has a very swollen abdomen. I have seen her drink water, but she is not eating any food. Does anybody know what could be wrong with her? This may not have anything to do with her sickness, but I did notice that her comb and beak seem to have a dark red color in them. It may have been that way before, but I never payed much attention until today, so that could be irrelevant. I appreciate any help! I feel bad for her. She is a Rhode Island Red.

How is her crop? Is it full and hard? It should empty in morning. The main reasons for chicks this age to be sick are coccidia and impacted crop from eating grass, straw, or hay that is too long, or not having grit to digest food. The crop would be firm and full and not empty by morning with a poor appetite. Cocci would cause lethargy, puffing up while sitting around, and later bloody stools. It is treated with Corid.

Her crop felt empty last night and today. She doesn't appear to be eating anything at all. She also feels a little cold to me.
