I almost feel bad that I have a favorite, I mean I only have the 4 ladies. and Ironically my favorite hen is an average white leghorn....

when I first got my chickens, I though for sure I'd be more attached to one that was a much "cooler" breed, but no. Foghorn Leghorn (I couldnt resist the name) is the bestest chicken ever! she is not the Alpha hen, but she also doesnt follow the alpha hen, she has her own mind, and boy does she do it. when I first got her she was super flighty (she flew up on the roof of our house once!) I thought that we were going to have a rough relationship, but now she is the best, she visits with me more than the other ladies, she is the first up in the morning, she is the best egg layer ever, and she lets me carry her around for however long I want.

I also love her floppy comb. She enjoys the rain (worming time!) and is not phased by the snow at all. Man I just Love her!!!

so tell me about your favorite!

not a great pic... she was too busy worming to look at the camera

Well, I would have thought one of my true breed chickens would have been a fave too BUT it is my red sex link, Penny. She has a crooked tail and was my first layer. When she was getting close to laying she just went a little crazy for a few days. Her first egg was on top of the refr. in the garage. None of my other hens acted like this. She has the loudest egg song and I love to see her come running when it is treat time. She is quick to catch on and I just love her...

My favorite hen is my gamehen Miss Prissy( she is the darker one). She was my first chicken and I guess she's my favorite because she immediatly took to me. The first night I had her we kept her in my dad's work building and when I fed her she didn't hesitate to eat from my hand and she didn't bite me. When I got Miss Prissy and Miss Penny(the other hen that came with her) into their coop that took 2 weeks to build because they were unexpected, she was the first to lay an egg. When I let her out she would follow me around everywhere and jump up on my knee when I gave them treats. When I had to train them to go in the coop at night all I had to do was tap on the coop entrance and she would fly up and go in. Because she was the top hen my other hen would follow her up. She was also the first hen I had that went broody and raise chicks. She is still freindly and is about 6 years old now and she still lays an egg a couple times a month

My favorite is a red sexlink named Elmo. Of course a 3 year old named her - go figure. We thought for the longest time she was going to be a roo - and I loved her from the first was hoping she would be a good roo and i could keep her - she was so fearless! Turned out she was just a heck of a big hen - and she is ruled by her stomach - if you have food you are her friend. She will also step between my lil banty roo and me if he tries to bug me when I have treats... she'll peck at him. She is the only one that always looks up when I say her name - and of course she lays the biggest best eggs. She is also very patient with my 4 year old - she follows her around the coop - and chats with her while she is playing on her slide.

(my others know their names but don't always pay attention)

This is my favorite and my best chicken buddy-Hairpiece(we named him that because his lopped comb makes him look like he has a combover

).
Sweetest most protective little thing ever. He's a 9 month old Pyncheon Bantam.

My current favorite is a little lavender bantam OEGB hen. This is not a breed I would have ever picked, but I "adopted" her and her sister from someone who couldn't keep them. She is the SWEETEST little bird ever - comes running when I go outside, flies up to sit on my shoulder, follows me around the yard. I absolutely LOVE her! Her and her sister reside with the bantam Cochins since they don't have their own roo...they're much smaller but are close to the top of the pecking order!

My fav is Kinzy,my little blue cochin bantam.she is a snuggler and a total lap chicken.she comes when I call her and she will follow me wherever I go.I bring her in the house with me a lot.she has even learned to drink from the doggie bowl.now if I could ju

st potty train her she would never go back out to the coop with the mean old LF girls..lol

My favorite is my rooster Penguin. He was always the smallest. For awhile I thought he might be a bantam as all the others were double his size, but finally he started to grow. He is a sweety unless you make his girls squak then he will peck you. He still gets up on our laps and loves to have his wattles rubbed

my favorite is whiskers, named for her muffs. She is an EE and one of my originals. She is so intelligent I have been known to call her Whiskers the wonder chicken. She can escape any pen if she wants to. Then immediately comes looking for me. She follows me around talking to me and waiting for treats. And she is the only one who will squat and let me pick her up.
Oh, shes the grey EE in the center.

I can honestly say that I don't have one favorite. I have several. My first rooster is Jack and he is a Delaware and got him March of 09. He got sick when he was couple months old and I took him to the vet and had xrays because he couldn't walk or even stand. Vet really didn't know what was wrong just had thin looking bones. So I researched it and treated him for Ricketts. I fed him a special diet for months and after like 3 months he started walking again. I just love him so very much and after about a year he started attacking me and my kids and then he lost his alpha roo status so I think that is what caused it. He got beat up by his son Duke almost a month ago so he is seperated again with a friend (Lucy). I also have Barred rock hens that are so sweet, an EE named Suzy, some new babies hatch this year so have far to many to have one favorite. Oh and my first broody hen named Momma, sweet and excellent mother. And then the girl in my avatar is Nellie. She died this summer in all the horrid heatand she was prob my favorite. But please don't tell anybody, don't want them to be sad.

They all have special places in my heart. Forever
