Trust me its impossible, they need to stick there bills in it, if they can do that they can make a mess, unless you have alot of time on your hands and can water then at certain times of the day and make sure there nose holes arent plugged with mud/food/ etc.

I googled "commercial waterfowl waterer" and found this:

Commercial brooders for waterfowl have a water trough outside of the brooding area which the youngsters reach by sticking their heads between wire bars. These bars are adjustable to allow for growth. One home-style method to take a flat pan and get some wire that the birds can reach through. You bend the wire into a cylinder that just fits in the pan and attach it so that the youngsters can't move it. This creates a small "pond" that they can't get in, but they can reach their heads into it. A heavy rock in the center will keep it from tipping over.

I've seen products on the market that are designed to constantly filter and refill pet dishes. Could one possibly be able to hold the volume of ickiness in duck water?

Me? I use a shallow tub: http://www.raraequus.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=280 with a stock tank float valve: http://www.tractorsupply.com/webapp...10551_10001_28397_-1______?rFlag=true&cFlag=1 and then have a piece of twine tied to the handle opposite the float valve so I can dump their water a few times a day without climbing into the coop. With the valve on it automatically refills. Sometimes the water needs swished, but the kind of plastic in that tub doesn't have the surface texture to get gunk stuck on.
