Similar. The stuff I buy is $5 a bag when it isn't on sale and I only buy it when it is on sale. Pellets won't work well for your fire pit. They need the proper set up so that the air can get to them. No air throughout and you get no fire.

Elm and cottonwood can be nasty to split also.

Both are better split green. Wear rain gear. After it dries out, it’s miserably stringy.
