Lets compare feed prices please (Although I might not want to know LOL).

Went today to buy feed. HMB feed and fuel was out of GB chow so I went for turkey starter and flock raiser (20% protein, same mineral content as flight conditioner). They switched to purina turkey starter and the price is ridiculous. It was $26.99/50lbs.

So price update on purina turkey starter in CA--->$26.99

Ouch ... may as well go with King's Pheasant Crumble for around $22 I think. 28%.

I did compare the tags on the $20 Swanson with Purina Gamebird Starter and they're very similar, except that the Swanson guarantees only 25.6% protein. But it's $20 vs $24. Bought 2 bags. Also bought a bag of Chicken Layer Pellets for $14.

I did stumble on Granada feed right on Monterey north of Tully. Didn't have much and the highest protein they had was that 20%. Thought you need at least 24% for quail.

Nutrena Meat Bird Feed (22%) - $17.49/50lbs. Too much powder but it was the highest protein feed that store had at the time (they say they will be getting real gamebird feed soon). Would not buy this again.

Manna Pro Gamebird/Showbird (24%) - $19.49/50lbs. The good stuff, but I have to drive across town to get it. Worth it after trying the above.

I'm not finding anything local that is higher than 24%, but my first batch of jumbos made it to an average of 7oz. at 7 weeks and 11oz. (hens) at 12 weeks so I guess I'm ok with that result. I did catch a few hens eating eggs this weekend but I think it was a combination of the overwhelming heat and the 22% feed they have been on for about a month.
