Bossy decided to get off the two eggs today. They were cold when I got home.

3-4 days to go until day 21.

I've cranked up the incubator, filled it with warm water and set the eggs for thier final few days. The best I could get was 99-100F and 69-70% in earlier trials.

candled them but could not see any movement, but they were black inside. My light isn't intense enough. Couldnt see an airsack either, maybe due to a poor candling light.

Fingers crossed.

Good Luck edster, Hope they make it. I had a broody hatch three of five and then I slipped six more eggs under her, so far she is staying on the nest and if I counted right they should be here around the 19th

Temp up a bit this morning, warm night.

Reduced the thermostat 1/8 of a turn.

Humidity also down a wee bit, 60%, so added some hot water from the kettle. Now for the time being up to 75-80%.

Gave the eggs thier final roll, but 1/4 of a turn this time.

Today day 18-19. (eggs set late on day 1, a Thursday, so taking Friday as 21)

Both broody chickens have done an OK job sitting. Daisy who got off first has "taken ownership" of the Orpington chicks. Chicken Little still "owns" the Light Sussex's.

Bossy..well she's just bossy. At night she sleeps on the egg (non fertile) but during the day she's outside. Hopefully if these two in the incubator she's been on hatch, I can slip the chicks under her during the night.

Good luck, I have had eggs left by mom and they were cold and was able to hatch them out. They were a bit late so don't give up on day 21.

When my broody left her eggs the two that were fertile were deceased. She sat for almost 30 days hatching those eggs, I had to take her out for a steak dinner when she was done.

My broodies only sat for 18 days on these eggs, however they were sittinf for a week or so before I got the fertile eggs, so in effect they have "given up" because thier "broody clock" has ticked past 30 days.

I'll keep these eggs in the incubator for a about 23-24 days. We move house then.

day 21.

Incubator beginning to smell..

One egg sounded sloppy and smelt like a hard boiled egg (smelly), so I threw it out.

The only egg left feels heavy, not sloppy when shaken gently like the other. No movement or sounds.

Probably dead.

I'll leave it another day.
