Almost right...muscovies quite often DO cross with mallard-based breeds but you are right on the mules aspect.
 
I love seeing all the guesses. And I really have no clue what they are. A friend got someone to hatch extra eggs and that is what he got back even no there isn o way they were his pure bred eggs that he gave to be hatched (lesson learned hatch your own eggs). But non the less they are the coolest ducks in my flock and as baby's they were skinny and tall like a runner but always had that band. The one was very greyish blue in colour and the other was almost black with that same white band. That is what drew me to them and had to have them.

Look I found a picture of them at about 2 weeks old....
