Hello fellow chicken tenders as the title states let see those treat platters! If your like me once a week mostly Sunday's I go through the kitchen and frig. I pull all the left over and make my birds a tray of yummy things. This week was a good week as the kids started school so lots of goodies

Wow! "Treats" for my chickens = wet chicken feed (which they go nuts for). They get the occasional watermelon rind in the heat of summer, and I'll mix buttermilk in with the wet feed "treat" during the cold winters (and sometimes some BOSS), but what you've got going on there is .

I've always read/been advised that too many "treats" can throw off the nutritional balance of their feed so I've been pretty cautious about it. Although I know many people throw all kinds of scraps and treats to their chickens without recognizable health issues.

Normally it doesn't look that good lol they got really lucky this week. I used a lot of fresh food this week in dinner and lunches. Normally I freeze all scraps from the week. I consider it a cheat day for them on Sundays since I'm off work and I spend time with them. They don't get treats during the week. That's for 63 critters lol chicken, ducks and turkeys. I felt like the old lady from Home Alone when she throws the bird seed to all the pigeons

Is the buttermilk beneficial? My grandma used to feed it to her pigs. She always said it made them taste better But I never thought for chickens.

I got the recipe from @Wyorp Rock who makes a mash with it for molting birds. Wyorp is one of my favorite people to learn from on BYC!

Buttermilk is low-lactose and a good source of protein and calcium (and probiotic, I think).

Since it's the end of season, I opened my summer vegetable garden to the chickens, if that counts!
