I'm new to chickens, overall, and have a motley mix of cool chicks that I bought from hatcheries last spring.

Anyway, around here (Phx, AZ) most chicks sold in feed stores come from a hatchery in New Mexico. I couldn't find one of the breeds I wanted from them, so I ordered some from Ideal Hatchery in TX.

I also bought some extra Ameraucanas (Easter Eggers, not show type) for a person on Craigslist - we went in together on the order, as I didn't need a full 25 chicks.

So, when the EE chicks arrived, a couple caught my eye, and I swapped out a couple of my purebreds for those.

These look REALLY different from the "usual" EE's that are seen in my area. Makes sense, because EE's are mutts anyway!

One turned out this really cool bright ORANGE with blue tail feathers - she almost glows in overcast light! The other one I picked ended up being a rooster (figures) but I kept him because he was so nifty. My gal lays sky blue eggs.

Since there is so much difference in the colors, can you post photos here of your Easter Eggers, and list what hatchery they came from? (Or who you bought them from.)

I'd also like to compare them to the purebred, show quality Ameraucanas, so if you raise those, post pix for all of us to see, and please brag about your awards won with them, if you show - so other newbies like me can see what a good "purebred" is supposed to look like!

Thought this would be a fun thread for everybody on here!

Below are my pix, of the rooster and the hen. The photo in the wheelbarrow is of her at about 3 months, she looks better (and brighter) now. The rooster pic is more recent.

Usually, the ones from the New Mexico hatchery are a soft, dull, cocoa-brown color, pretty in its own way, with little or no "red" or yellow tones - kind of like tree bark. These ones from TX, as you can see, are NOT that at all!

Can't wait to see what y'all post . . . .

Thanks!

and here's Farrah my Banty EE (or is she Ameraucana?) she's SUCH a good mother...

I have another Standard EE (Ethel) of which I have no picture, yet, and a couple more Banty EE (Ameraucanas?) (Laverne & Shirley)...

...and here are the eggs. The egg colors are crazy! I don't know if it's just mine but I get green, blue and sometimes...pink. (I know it looks purple but it's a pink egg. Honest!) GO figure! (The brown eggs are from my Red Stars. They always HAVE to be in the picture!

White, brown, blue, green, pink...I love them ALL!

PS I also have a Sicilian Buttercup and an Andalusian so whenever I give eggs to friends/neighbors they always look bewildered...all those colors!!!

Also, my digital camera is not the best so the blue/green egg looks darker than it really was. It was more of a light pastel color...as was the pink. I hope this doesn't confuse anyone. LOL!

Glad you're enjoying Hazel and Iris, Lee! They sure are sweet girls; that is, when they're not broody, LOL! My three came from a friend's eggs. She had a Black Ameraucana rooster from Cree Farms in Washington State and blue hens from another breeder.
Here are my Ameraucanas, Scout, Silver & Charlotte:

OK, I'm reading the similar thread that was started before!

To not have this be so much of a "repeat" please list the breeder/source of the chickens - so we can see what all the big hatcheries sell, as well as who raises purebreds and where!

Thanks!
