Lets talk about goats!

I have a Nubian billy (my first two goats) and I was thinking the same thing......I read that they had fewer urinary issues when they are allowed to mature.

What age do they start getting stinky and obnoxious?

About three years old is when you can really tell they are stinky. Our billy is three now and you can track him around the whole farm by his scent. But our Boer x billy didn't stink at all at two years old.

Nigerian Dwarves start reeking much earlier than some other breeds. Mine can cause paint to peel at six months. When the fall rut happens, I've smelled them as far as 1/4 away when the wind is right. They don't get pet on very much during the fall...when I do I use a (new) toilet scrubby brush from the dollar store, or else I will smell like buck even after washing up very well.

Okay, thanks....I think mine is about six months old, and doesn't smell at this point.

I was planning on letting him get to a year before neutering him (or wethering him, or whatever the term is with goats ))

They don't get "lost" mineral? Honestly, as cruddy as the blocks are for minerals, it is better than no minerals. Getting some trace minerals with a lot of table salt still beans not getting any trace minerals.

Because my region is specifically low in copper with high iron in the soil, I give my entire herd copper boluses. My black goats will turn rusty without it, indicating a deficiency. But your situation is likely different.
