Let's talk about hurricanes!

Where do you tie the straps down at? That's a great idea.

We have two bathrooms, but they both have windows in them, they are also really small. I don't think that we could house four ducks and 13 chickens in it. We also don't have a garage. We have a shed, but it's less sturdy than our coop. Haha!

We had hooks on the side of the coop and tie down anchors into the ground below it. Since we combined duck/chicken coop a couple months ago, we haven't redone it. We may end up just sinking in the ground anchors and strap over the roof.

Even if you staked that coop if winds are strong enough it won't stand a chance. You are probably better off bringing them in if possible or even letting them loose if your yard is fenced in at least then they could find a place and hunker down. My coop is part of a large shed that is tied down and cemented into the ground with hurricane straps when we had it built. They problem with me is that if I lock up the chickens and ducks in it we have very large pine trees right outside it and I'm afraid of the trees falling on it. I'll probably still lock them all up in it as they probably will stand a better chance but I'm still not sure what to do myself. Plus the coop gets very dark when all closed up with only one window. We have no basements being in the Low Country area of SC or that would be the ideal place.
