Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

Thanks! I'm really looking forward to getting started. I have a heavily feathered leg BCM to start with and unfeathered cuckoos that came from eggs that were 3s an 4s in the egg color chart. My BCM roo came from a nice dark egg. It should be fun and I can't wait to see what the Chicks look like.
Hi

I did the cross a couple of times and got the gold in the male but not the female.  I passed the project onto someone else and they kept crossing until they got good egg color and color in the females hackles.  The hard part is getting the gold in the hackles of the females when using a black copper.  Don't give up, it will be worth it in the end.

I am BRAND new to to Marans, and just ordered 6 cuckoo marans through Murray McMurray because they sounded like they would do well in our cold and rainy Washington state climate. Did I just get birds that are worthless in the Marans world, or does McMurray have ok stock?

Here are some of the Cuckoo eggs from my pullets that just started laying they are the brown eggs between the dark olive eggs and the white egg with a few bluish green ee eggs underneath.
The 4 eggs on the far left are from my younger solid black marans girls. They are laying darker than their momma! Flash kinda washed everything out grr.
