Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

There's some buff cuckoo (they are calling them lemon) project marans on eBay as well. It looks like they are based on the black tail buff, only cuckoo.

Great pics Big Mamma. Is there a way to start a file somewhere of examples of what we are looking for that won't get buried in the thread... I'm still a bit new to this board. Also it was with great excitement that I saw gabbard farms golden cuckoo eggs on E bay this morning but when I open the pic files I found a few things that I would everyone to look at and discuss in hopes of clarifying what I am hearing here in this thread... so with hopes I am not offending any one... I am going to post this pics here for discussion.



above: The roo looks pretty nice to me... even the dark coloring which I tend to not like over the lighter.... but there are those white tails feathers... Is it even possible to get a golden cuckoo roo with no white tail feathering?

Now the hen...

overall coloring very flashy and nice, but her shape seems off to me... maybe it's because she is moving but her tail seems way too perked up? Is that just because the picture is of her running or am I right that the tail set is way too high?

I think this hen looks kinda like she has some game in her background with the high set tail and it is more fan shaped. The male looks typical for the Braden line of golden cuckoo marans that I have seen.

yes...those are the ones I was looking at... I agree, they look more buff...there is one nice one in the bunch, though...

It doesn't look like they are 4 years into that project. They should also advertise them as project birds since they are not a true lemon cuckoo coloring. They should perhaps advertise them as barred black tailed buffs...but they look project-ish for that as well.

Yes, I wouldn't call them lemon. Barring on buff/red color is tricky. It's difficult to get that crisp contrast look. I enjoy seeing new color projects, though. Yes, they should be called "project". Not everyone remembers to disclose when a color isn't an official approved color variety. I have to say that this group looks better than some other marans projects I've seen on eBay. The worst ones make me want to cry.
