Let's talk Cuckoo and WHITE marans... breeding strategies...

VC, you are right about the extra brown around the head being from the Wade jeane BC. I am growing out a few for a little bit just to take pictures. The brown headed chick in my first hatch is feathered out now and is almost all brown. I am getting 2-3 from each hatch so far. When I started hatching this year intentions were to immediately cull all of these but decided to grow some out for the pictures. I have around 600 hatched out already and plan on culling the males to around 100 to grow out.

Thanks VC for doing all that research on the European GCs. Wow if they are confused I don't know what we are supposed to do lol. It seems that the golden cuckoos are an even bigger can of worms than the other varieties.

"How's that new baby doing VC??"

I was wondering that myself? Are you and your wife getting any sleep yet?

So will the US standard also have a dark cuckoo? Any thoughts?

If you are not breeding golden cuckoos, should you be trying to cross a birchen into your birds to obtain the silver cuckoo?

Thanks for the patience - I am seriously genetic challenged

Thanks! I am so happy, I was very worried about them because we lost power three times in the first week due to storms. Plus of all the eggs I have ever had shipped this was the first time I had four broken when I opened them. AND it was the first time I have ever had a weeping egg with a hatch. The whole time they were too dark to candle well too. So many things were looking bad but I just kept hoping for just one chicklet to make it worth while.
