Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Pics
They are Fancy Chick birds.
I had 4 of 12 eggs hatch and all were roos.
All were very attractive birds.
The darker one was the only dark one, the other 2 roos looked lighter like Jericho, pretty much looked just like him.
They are both sweet birds. Friendly, eat out of your hand birds.
Jericho is bigger. Body & head. He has a nicer/larger comb. His feet are so beautifully feathered.
I hadn't noticed the barring....I was so consumed with the golden coloring. The darker golden roo does not have barring on his tail feathers.
I hate choosing between two birds I really like...but one of them must go. Boo.

Okay, I have read most but not all of these post replies. I also have GCMS. I knew from the get go after talking to several breeders that this color doesnt breed true. About 1 percent of genetic transfer is color. Each parent contributes traits and genetics. Trust that color is only a physical feature and doesnt carry much weight in the total transformation so I'm told. Its truly up to your efforts to breed the best colors together for your future stock. EVEN THEN the result wont be a perfect repeat. Good luck with that!

Get enough girls to make them happy and keep both.

I have two GCM roosters (father and son) in together.

But IS there a standard for GCM color? I thought it wasn't approved yet?
Or are we simply talking about type standard?

Yes, I go by the French standard. " www.marans.eu "

THE GOLDEN CUCKOO VARIETY~

Plummage color, as for the crele variety, i.e. as for the Silver Cuckoo color, except all silver/white areas are red/gold. The Cuckoo pattern even more distinct on the hen.

Disqualifying Defects~ White feathers.
