Let's talk Golden Cuckoo Marans!

Is there any disadvantage to retaining the recessive white within the breeding line? For breeding purposes it would be similar to blue/black/splashes from a single breeding pen. They are spectacular looking whites, at least the younger ones are. I just worry that it wouldn't be a 'pure' gcm line, at least as viewed by others.

Have you checked with the rare White Marans breeders to see if recessive whites out of your colored line would be of use to them?
I don't know if they are using recessive white, dominant white or silver to make the white Marans.

there is not any problem of retaining the recessive white c in any marans variety. genetically speaking doesn t interfere with with the adult feathering pattern.
the recessive white @ one dose c/C+ doesn t cause white feathering when adult.
the white feathers we see in colored bird are parasitic NOT related to the recessive white.

the recessive white could be bred out or kept within the line like you mentioned early on ,they could be kept in the same pen.

My Recessive white come from the lady ho had them for over 10 years as Black tail buff Marans carrying the white. she never bothered to separate them .
I m the first one ho start doing t when i got her line .I m breeding then separately . buff line and white line.

in the Marans breed the White variety is the Recessive White Not a Dominant( very rare I m lucky to have them both, Recessive and Dominant)
there is 2 type of this recessive white . 1) Silver based bird .white from the silver Black( Birchen . silver Cuckoo .)
2) Gold based bird, white from the Copper ,Wheaten etc......

The silver based White bird is more desirable No straw hackle or lancet at adult age.

The silvers are a very interesting color, with the lighter saddle and hackles. Very pretty birds.

better photo of the silver double barred cockerel . CHARLIE 2

silver double barred and his brother Golden single barred cuckoo marans both have a couple feathers on they shanks. So they need more

I like the silver my self especially when full grown and are double barred ,

I had a lot set back this year with a cuckoo variety but i m happy with what I have .I sold too many too early and left my self short, 6 hens and 6 cockerel /rooster.

this breeding season i m penning Chinatown The F1 Gold/Silver cuckoo with a Black copper hens to produce a better Golden cuckoo ,they will be singled barred but with a better golden hackle and saddle. plus better shanks feathering.

his son as well the Golden one is going to be mated to the black copper hens . he s going a be a huge rooster like his father 4.5Kg. plus he got a long back and solid head.So I m looking forward to see they progeny and compare them ( father and son over the same hens. single matting. )

the dabble barred cockerel going to be matted to a Birchen hen s to create a new line.plus my birchen got a good feathered shanks.

The feathered shanks is one thing that i haven't had any issues with.
