Because the son carry only one recessive white gene c SO he s C+/c.
if crossed to a C+/C+ no white hen = will produce 50% split white C+/c and 50% no carrier C+/C+ as a F1.
than if you taste mate the F1 between them selves you will find the C+/C+ no white chooks and the split white. Keep only the C+/C+ no white ( plus they will carry the dark eggs genes as a bonus and a Blue double bonus ).
take you one season if you taste mate the F1 progeny ( before you breed them forward) and you are done .pure GCM and Blue crele maran both ER based and lay a dark egg .
and if you run then together  as Blue crele Rooster over a GCM and other way around GCM rooster over a Blue crele Hens ET voila you ll have better control of the Blue colour because you are working t with a black. and you ll have a better Golden hackles on your Blue crele ( the Blue dilute the the Coper to Gold ) because of the GCM.

is better to run the Blue and the Black together  .better result.

Ok, I understand. I thought that you were saying he wouldn't carry the gene because of being double barred. That was my plan to test mate everyone. Its also the reason i was not trying to use my f0 rooster, I didnt want to create more to have to test mate.

So the blues would be considered crele, or blue golden cuckoos?

That is funny but it is close! In any case, those of us here in AZ with GCMs can trace our birds to Patti's. You probably have someone similar in your state.

I've got one hen separated and with her father which I knows carries recessive white. I plan on test mating her and her father and looking for white chicks.

The other hen is still with the F1 single barred rooster, which I know also carries recessive white. I plan on hatching that pairing and looking for white chicks.

I know at least 1 hen carries it, hopefully not both. I've got another batch of f1s that are about 4 months old to work with after this.

I took some pics of the hen that I placed with her father.

I'm very proud of how the hens turned out. I'm disappointed that I'm going to have to cull the f1 rooster and at least one hen. Should I try to sell the pair locally or eat the rooster? It's not good ethics to sell flawed or cull birds, because someone could get them and try to start a breeding program with bad birds.

Hi Morbius18.

the hen is absolutely on the money my friend one of the best GCM hen out there BRAVO.

I ll no cull the F1 rooster he is well bred .it not a problem neither a fault if he carries the white gene.
I ll sale him if I was you to some body ho want to breed both the GCM and the White Marans. they have nice type and good body colour.

Look my friend will take you one season to test mate them and than you are only going to go forward in your breeding program.

If you keep producing hen s like the one you posted you will never run into problems.

I m impressed .
Shame i m far away from you ( another country ) other ways I ll take them all and breed 2 varieties from them .

cheers for sharing your good work with us
