The little girl smiled at the lady...she liked pigs very much and a thought came into her head...

"What if I could sell enough eggs and one day buy a piglet to show at the fair!"

She furiously started calculating how many eggs that would take, and how long it would take the chickens to lay them, simultaneously plotting on how to get more chickens to speed up the process

She was a smart little girl, and hard-working, and her mother and father had taught her how to add and subtract.

The next person to walk up to her table was her math teacher, “What are you working so hard to figure out?” He asked.

"I'm trying to figure out how many eggs I would have to sell to get enough money to buy a piglet to show at the fair," she said, smiling.

By now, all thoughts of the doll store and lollipops were long gone.

“What have you come up with so far,” he asked, then added, “Also, I’ll buy 3 dozen eggs to help you in your quest.”

The girl grinned, thanked the man and handed him three cartons of eggs.

The little girl was so happy that she did a sort of happy-dance as she took the egg money from the man - now she could buy a pig, which she could show at the fair and perhaps buy her mother a wonderful birthday present with the prize money!
