In the middle of it all
I noticed my hen was trying to brood on and off over the past few days (other hens kept kicking her out of the nest), so she's in her own pen now with five eggs in a quiet, dark nest. Last time I noticed, the move had kinda disrupted her and she wasn't sitting on the eggs. We're gonna give her a few days to see if she'll set, if she doesn't, that's it. Fingers crossed!

Anyone else brooded in winter? I'd love to hear your experiences!

I got one right now. I don't have a roo so no fertile eggs. But a member from BYC that is near me gave me 6 Black Copper Marans to put under her. It's been a few days now. I should have babies in 18 days. We'll see. Cross your fingers for me too!

My girl is a Blue Splash Orp and very fuzzy. She's keeping them very warm concidering it was -2 degrees at 7am this morning and only a high of 12 today. We will be warming up soon. At least to the normal 24 degrees. It's about 22 degrees in the coop. But warm eggies!

Me too--- I have six under my broody Dark Cornish and six in the 'bator--- don't know what I'll get for sure--- they are all mixed breeds. I also ordered some chicks from MPC for April delivery--- 4 RIR's, 4 EE's and 4 Welsummers

Really! Last time we looked, little Serena was perched instead of on the nest. If she broods, we'd have to swap out the frozen eggs for new ones. I'm kicking myself now, because I had to discourage her so many times before we were ready to let her brood, and now that she can, she seems to be deciding not to... GAH!!! Still hoping...

Wow, so many people brooding in winter... Whether or not my hen does, I'm looking forward to hearing all about everyone else's chickens!
