Levi Hatched!

Here is a video of him 12 hours later. He still isn't interested in eating, I have dipped his bill in the food and water. He drank and that's about it. He seems pretty happy!

Opps, wrong video, that was a video of my goose egg that seems to be stuck or shrink wrapped! I posted the video in the goose forum.

Crap, I can't get a video from my phone to my e mail, I think it's too long? Sorry, I'll try again tomorrow with my real camera.

How's Levi this morning especially now that he has a new friend named Moose.

Hi everyone!!! Levi and Moose are doing fantastic! Levi was soooooo happy when I put Moose in with him last night!! Thpine shavings are a mess though, so I'm dumping them and putting in puppy pads!

Here are today's pictures....

Also, I have the video of Moose hatching last night, and get this... He had an air cell at both ends of his shell! I couldn't tell when I candled!

They look great, awesome hatch and video. Be sure both Moose and Levi have good traction because if their legs slip out from under them it can cause spraddle leg. They look great though and Moose is most likely an Embden they hatch with grey over yellow girls darker grey than boys. When new feathers begin coming in the come in all white.

Thanks!! Yes, Moose is only 9 hours old and doesn't quite have the strength to stand yet. I'm dumping the pine shavings out and using towels.

They are ALL doing wonderful! AND, I have learned a lot!!! Levi as you know, was born first, a Pekin ducking. I was freaking out a little because he didn't walk right away, seemed sleepy and wanted nothing to do with food. Having never hatched anything before in my life, I didn't know if this was normal. Now that my 3rd bird has hatched, I got this down!!! LOL

I have learned.... After the first external pip, they stay quiet and do nothing for 24 hours, then bam, they are out. Also, I have found, none of mine hatch while I'm watching LOL They have all hatched in the middle of the night!

I found babies don't want to eat for at least 24 hours after hatching, but once they do, they are pigs, and messy LOL

I found it takes a good 2 days for them to walk properly, then on the 3rd day, they sprint LOL

As I said, Levi was born first, then what we thought was a male bird(Moose) turned out to be a female Embden- now named Lucy. I was told I was given Embden geese and Pekin ducks eggs, so when my 2nd Goose hatched(yesterday) I was shocked to see it looked nothing like the other goose! I found out it was indeed a Toulouse goose. Well, being that the Toulouse was twice as big as the duck and Lucy born just the day before, we named this goose Moose LOL

They are all doing fantastic! They have had bath time in the bathtub today, had a walk around the yard, and they eat the Gro-gel, Organic duck crumble, dried sea kelp and fresh water.

I can't stand messy environments, so I clean the brooder 3 times a day. I also want to say, the Brinsea heat plate is AMAZING and they run right under it to cuddle and sleep.

I have 2 more goose eggs due to hatch tomorrow or Tuesday. I have no idea which breed they will be!

I'm going to the farm tomorrow to get more free eggs. I will pick them out myself!

I have a bunch of videos to share, but I really don't want to upload them to youtube. I wish I could just upload from my computer. I'll take more pics tonight!
