I keep mine at 101-102 that way when I have a temp drops (at night mostly) it doesnt go below 99.9ish !! I have had some great hatches in my LG.

Also in the morning if the temp is to low I put my plug back in for an hour or so and it goes back up !!

I have used mine for one hatch, it was my first ever!
I let it run for 2 straight days before I put anything in it. I also made sure I didnt open it ever! Only to turn/add water.

I thought for sure that I was going to kill every egg because it was my first time but I didnt and I owe alot of that to that incubator I think

First hatch ever Mutt Eggs 4 of 8 hatched!! I was pretty eggggcited!!

I originally made a cooler-bator..Had lots of fluctuations..

Decided to get an LG..Figured it had to be better..
Was planning on putting a pc fan in it..But a friend gave me a fridge fan for use in RVs

I'm keeping it in a big closet..We have been trying not to use the central air because of foundation problems and too many air leaks in the house currently..

The temps were still fluctuating..So I put a lamp in there to help warm the air..That seemed to help..

Then last night we were expecting really nasty weather, so I put the roosters (Who normally roost on top of the hens covered run) into the new coop area that I had been using as a brooder for the chicks I hatched in the cooler-bator..
Still follow me? hehehe..

The chicks are now in the closet with the incubator..I had to change out their 250 watt heat lamp for a 100 watt bulb, cause it got too warm for the chicks..

But now all seems well.. (We got over 4 inches of rain last night!!)

So..For the LG..My suggestions would be..Get a fan for it, and try to keep that room/closet a bit warmer..Like 80 degrees..

I'm still quite a novice at all this.

Patience is the most important thing when using an LG.

I highly recommend purchasing the $30 fan kit, even for a hatcher.

Temp variations are normal. People get way to carried away and
try to adjust. Once an LG is set you should not have to adjust it
again, or at least until the next hatch.

The temp should be 100 at egg level or up to 102 at the top.


Add water bottles to it. The more mass you have in it the more stable
the temps will be. An empty bator is an unstable bator.

I agree with PC.
I have 2 LG's, one still air, and one forced air with turner. I find once they are set, I have to leave them alone. The temps do fluctuate, but so does my hova-bator. I like them all the same, but I'm going to get fans for the other two. I get good and bad hatches from all. I think it depends alot on the eggs themselves, like shipped or fresh eggs from home.

Okay, so 100 at the bottom? I have been working to get it to around 101.5-102. So I guess I will drop it down just a touch. It is remaining pretty constant.

I don't have time to get a fan for this hatch, but if I like this system, I will use it as a hatcher or overflow bator in the future.

My dh hasn't even blinked since I added this third incubator. I'll take that as a green light.

They are at the bottom hatching. So I will bring it down a touch. I thought still air was 101.5 or so. I guess that is at the top of the egg.

Not top of the egg, top of the bator. I put an oral thermometer in one
of the smal vent holes up top. The probe hangs down an inch from the
top. That is where I look for 101.5 (forced air).

If I took a temp at egg level it would be at least a degree or more cooler.
The vents on the bottome try pull in cool air.

Remember this, it's always better to be a little cooler than warmer.

lg doesn't work for me. killed three batches. tried several different things. i did get one little ee to hatch yesterday by some miracle. i did want to say to get the humidity up, i broke a paper carton into individual cup and wet them and placed them around. it helped alot. i am using it for a hatcher now.
