I set the temp and NEVER touch the knob again. When I close up shop I never touch the knob. This way I just plug it in and the temp it set. I have covered the holes at the bottom of the bator and use the turner all the time until day 18. The motor on the turner gets pretty hot, so I just assume this into the overall temp of the bator. I will get my dollars worth out it and then i will use it as a brooder sometime down the road. I like the idea of having some humidity in a brooder. Otherwise the thing was a as needed event about a year ago and it has hatch a boat load of chicks. The last hatch was 100 percent !!! I am saving my pennies for a "sportster" bator. We would like to start on the exoctics again in the spring.

Well I had one pip and hatch really quickly this morning, and it was still day 19. So far so good. I was able to get it pretty stable. It is near our woodstove, so it did not go down last night. It seems to move around a bit between 99.5 to 102. Hoping when I get home today I have more pips and hatches.

The little Welsummer this morning was just precious.

Rim, I would LOVE to have a sportsman too. I haven't made my mind up about this as a hatcher. It seems to be working in a pinch, but I won't know until this hatch finishes up which could go into sunday or monday.

Thnaks for the suggestions Shelley and PC.

Once I get the temp. set I dont have to touch it, though I do check it every day. I turn the eggs by hand but quickly and dont open the bator any more than that except to candle a couple of times. I do add a little water during the first 18 days and then up the humidity with a couple of sponges.
