I'm so sorry you had to endure that.
In every society there exists those potential crazies. Add a pandemic and many feel empowered to attempt to force their values on others. When dealing with that sort of thing, it's best to take a deep breath, hide your emotions, be polite and maintain your distance. Remember that you are the sane person in the conversation. And try to engage as little as possible as you never know what will trigger an escalation. Often a smile followed by "Thank you, I'll do better next time" is all it takes to deescalate the situation.
