LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

It's always a mystery to me how animal people, especially farm people who breed animals and see SO many of them pass through their hands, think LGBT+ is "Unnatural".
Like, dude. You raise animals. Do you know how many doe rabbits I've had that are TERRIBLE at being good breeding does because they don't like bucks, produce almost no babies and refuse to care for them? How many boy bunnies that wanna mount the other boys not fight with them? How about hens that crow and chase away roosters or chickens that are born as chimeras but nonbianary/trans people are just a trendy fad, not real....?

But then I remember that as stewards of livestock with specific goals.... Most of those animals get culled. And how many people think of humans as just a flock to be shepherded. And it all kind of clicks into place. :T :T :T

The good news is it's always OK to grow! And whether it takes a chicken to convince you or not I think we're always excited when people grow and learn. It's always OK to admit that you were wrong and makes you a bigger better person for it! If you're not cringing at your past self, chances are good you're not growing much. :)

Farmers aren't the only ones who recognize LGBT+!

Today I come bearing a tale of woe and rage.
I work hard on my subsistance garden each year, mostly things we can preserve or eat a lot of. But I grow a few fun things too. This year it was PMR delicious 51 muskmelons - a fun sort of cantaloupe.
Melons struggle up here A LOT. So when I got a few melons growing I was hype. I carefully tended to and weeded the bed.... One by one the melons slowly died or were eaten by bugs and the vines slowly died all expect for one BIG melon which grew OK! I harvested it about 2 days ago because the vines around it died and it was already turning overripe.
"We need to eat this melon! Before it goes bad!" I say to my partners. They nod in agreement. G, who hates melons, is super excited to try the melon we worked so hard on! I am too. "We'll eat it in the morning for breakfast!" D says. I think this sounds good and we are off to bed.

Well today... guess who ate all but a single bite of the melon all by themselves!!?!?!? D ate the WHOLE THING giving me only like two tiny chunks!!!!!!!!? WHY did he eat the whole thing you ask?!? I SURE ASKED!!! His reason was "We said I'd eat it for breakfast!". NAH FAM. WE said *WE* would eat it for breakfast you colossal nincompoop! WE AINT YOU! G didn't even get a SINGLE bite. >(

I'm so mad right now. Anyone know a good hitman for taking out greedy melon gobbling partners who don't deserve your produce????

My only melon. :hitGone. I wanna chop him up and feed him to the chickens!
Humm, the native Americans used to bury fish under their corn for fertilizer, wonder what a pesky melon gobbling partner would do to / for a melon patch???

Were the little chunks you got to try good at least? I follow a youtube channel that is based in CA and he tried watermelons last year and this year and said he just doesn't get hot enough for them to do well, don't know about the other types though.

D and I have come to an agreement. I will not feed his corpse to my farm for having eaten my only melon, and he will make me a mini hoop house from his spending budget to extend my season and heat so next year I can have more, better melons. Minimum 4'x4', and he can source the parts for it from anywhere he sees fit as long as it doesn't come from somewhere else on the farm and is structurally sound.
His life is spared... For now.

Might I recommend cattle panels?
