LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Sorry to hear everyone is down in the dumps. I for one m having a pretty grand day! I am throwing a mini festival on my property on the 1st ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/sweetleaf-retreat-tickets-112387311474 ) and I have surpassed my ticket selling goal! Also booked an 8th band and got my vendors ironed out. This is a first time thing for us so I am super nervous excited. I started building an 8x16 stage today in my backyard and finished all the framing. It's going to be a weekend to remember. :bun

Also, I have 25 birds being shpped to me tomorrow!! A mix of 15 heritage layers and 10 guinea keets all one day old. I can't wait til they come!:jumpy

Annnnd look what I found on my porch this morning!!View attachment 2266357
3 live babies. I have seen mom and dad taking turns on the nest. So friggin cute.
What are those on your porch?

what heritage layers did you get?

GOOD LUCK on your exciting event. :) I know it will be wonderful, hows the stage coming along?

Thanks bud! I think they are wren or swift! I am not the best at bird ID. The parents get so mad when I walk by, they fly away and click super loud to try and lead me away. When I was taking pictures they were flying a foot from my head YELLING AT ME. lol

I got Barred Rock, Australorp, Orpington, Welsummer, White only Leghorn, Rhode Island Red, Speckled Sussex, Delaware and a couple Wyandottes. I got one or two of each. I love variety! Also got 10 guinea keets in this order. :celebrate

The event is gonna be so rad!! My wife andd I are in humble awe that we sold all our tickets. We love our property so much and we just know all these heady folds will too. The stage us near complete!! Just need to attach the four pieces of plywood to the top, and add some posts at the corners to hang lights and banners etc.. Our headliner is called the Trichomes.
They play huge fests around here like Strangecreek and Wormtown but everything is cancelled. We asked them as a preyer, and they said yes!!! So I was like F it, I am building a stage cause they deserve it lol. Totally snowballed from there. I will take some pics for you guys over the weekend!

For good reason.
Hope everyone stays 'safe' and healthy!
Sorry to be a debbiedowner, but crowd gathering just makes me cringe.
Me too. I’m hoping the farm gets as much exposure as @Tre3hugger needs, and I appreciate this being outdoors. I hope everyone is safe and protected, and I hope you guys have a great time and get what you need out of the event.

I think we all have to do what we have to do knowing our local areas and what not. I’m feeling isolated and frustrated in TX, where no one gives a flying F. Everyone does what they want, kids are in camp all summer, parties everywhere all the time, My county of almost a million people specifically does not enforce mask orders from the state. I won’t go to my feed store and am having to change EVERYTHING I do for the animals to go elsewhere because my local store not only doesn’t have a policy for masks, they post on FB and places that anyone who believes in this stuff is an idiot. I haven’t been anywhere in months, and I don’t have ANY friends with kids taking precautions I feel comfortable with, same with my family. I’m worried at this time in his life (3.5), I’m really messing with social development by keeping us isolated, but it is what it is. I can’t wait to look BACK on this time in our lives!

Understood. We have hand sanitation stations and a strict mask policy we plan to enforce. Also, we capped the tickets at 50 people for 5 acres. Plenty of outdoor room for social distancing. We are located inside of a state forest that is open to the public, and following their guidelines.

I worry that all the diligence some of us are doing with masks, careful contacts, distancing will go on forever because some people's activities keep this nightmare going. We have been doing this since March here!

Our main motivation for the event is bringing people together in a very divisionary time. With the right protocols in place there will still be minimal risk, but I consider it far from reckless. Everyone, like you said, just needs to do what they feel comfortable with for them and their family.

To be fair MA has a much lower case count and better enforcement than TX (or many places) which makes any event safer. That whole NE US area is doing well to the point they've banned travel from outside of it without a 2 week quarantine, but you can go within it pretty freely.

Where I'm at it's been rough. State wide masking just went into place this week. Case counts have been going up for months. It's been wack.

But I have to be honest - I'm having a gathering on the 1st too. It's going to be 4 people from outside my household (close friends) for a sabbat. We have really specific plans on how we're going to be hosting as well. Masks on, outdoors, lawn games (every household gets their own playing tools), the food is going to be single serving food so no shared utencils (cupcakes, burgers, sausages, condiments in cups, veggie kebabs, corn on the cob, really careful food prep rules), individual eating spaces 10+ feet apart, bleach wipes, outdoor hand washing stations, etc... It's gonna be this whole thing.

I haven't seen people in months except to sing happy birthday to my sister from her lawn. :T So I'm really looking forward to it.
