Oof. I slept like garbage last night - awful flashback-y dreams. And the dogs were being super bad this morning - trying to dig in the compost pile and trying to drink rainwater from buckets instead of clean water from their bowls.... Plus it's a million degrees right now.

Think I'll just go play my dinosaur game for a few hours and drink a coffee and try to calm down.

Those are never fun mornings. I'm at work discussing gardening with one of our IT people. lol

Yeah, well, luckily I have a whole lot of angry music that's very cathartic for days like these. I normally listen to artsier/poppier stuff these days but I always keep other stuff around. Thanks, Angry Teenage Me, you had at least moderately good music taste, if not healthy coping mechanisms. XD

How is your garden doing right now? Mine is like exploding in full fruit right now and we're prepping to start canning tomatoes and hot sauce soon! I have a cantaloupe to cut up today. <3

Hey all!
Just got done reading the whole thread and thought I would say 'hi'. Both my partner and I are pan, (though I'm a bundt pan, and they're a loaf pan- HAR HAR HAR) and have no pronoun preference.
I'm very very new to chickens, and soaking up as much information as I can. Our girls started laying three weeks ago, and I've been chuffed to have gotten 4/4 eggs for three days in a row now. Fingers crossed for a continued streak!
I love reading about everyone's dedication and experiences in farming/agriculture. :)

I think mine is just about done. Though the peppers have just fired up. I'm down to 1 Big Boy slicer tomato but it's a cutting from one of the ones I bought and hasn't fruited yet, it does have blooms so fingers crossed it gets it's stuff together and makes me a tomato. I have 2 cherry tomatoes, but they are starting to look rough. These were purchased in peat pots and the instructions said to plant them pot and all, so I did... But I think they are getting root bound anyway for some reason. Hornworms killed one of the Big Boys and when I pulled it out, there was only 1 root that was out of the pot, so I think that's the issue. I am starting everything in 2 inch peat pots next year but will be cutting slits in the bottoms and sides before using them to prevent this from happening again.

I also have the cutest ugly bell pepper growing, it looks like an overgrown, green cashew!

Oh hey- what dinosaur game? Those are some of my favorites!

ARK: Survival Evolved. I'm hunting prehistoric turtles right now so I can capture a giant squid. XD

Oof, sorry about the hornworms. We only get them occasionally here - I think I've found less than ten in seven years of gardening. Definitely cut your peat pots... The peat is fine for the soil and moisture retention but the roots can't ACTUALLY get through it well. It's a big lie. Newspaper is actually better for that because when it gets super wet it kind of crumbles apart easier. We tear our peat pots off and put the pieces around the plant base as mulch.

Ours is definitely a production garden so we have a ton of plum regal pastes ripening right now. Our slicers are still going and the cherry tomatoes are a MESS because they're indeterminate and had a rough start and I kept forgetting to tie them up.... It's a huge tangley mess out there where they are.

I found a place that sells the 2" peat pots for like 0.10 each with no minimum, since I am starting 79 seedlings and will be using my 20 gallon long aquarium (30x12") to start them since i can put a heat mat under the glass and it has a light hood, I can't go any bigger than a 2" pot, as it is, I could only get 11 more in there... lol...

I'm planning on doing at least 4 slits down the sides and at least 1 slit across the bottom of the pot, leaving enough around each slit so the pot doesn't fall apart but it has plenty of areas for the roots to come out. If I can get them to do it, I will probably tear the bottoms off of the pots when I go to plant them as well.
