@ChickyCh00k how's you hen that hurt/broke her toe? Did she heal up? :)
She's doing much better! Thank you for asking (and for bringing me back to the thread), @TwoCrows 🤗. We taped her toe for a couple of weeks, but as soon as we took it off it went right back to the way it was (I think it's just permanently cockeyed now), but she isn't limping at all and she seems very happy, doing all of the happy chicken things. 🥰

My husband (Craig) and I spent all of last week, and most of the week before last, installing overhead netting above our (now much smaller) chicken yard - one of the reasons I've been a bit MIA. It was much more laborious than I imagined it would be, but after Loki's untimely demise, it was very necessary - we see multiple hawks every day now :( . Her death hit us both much harder than I thought losing a chicken would.

Craig bought this little solar light and put it on the spot where he buried Loki - it lights up at night and reminds us to stay vigilant as we're still learning so much ❤️‍🩹:

Oh I am so glad she healed up well enough, always heart warming to see them back to being chickens!! 😊

Yes losing our babies to predators is heart wrenching, :hugs I lost a hen many years ago too to a hawk and then started keeping them in a safer area with high fencing and lots of trees and hidey places. Predators are a fact of life unfortunately. :hmm LOVE the solar light, a beautiful way to honor her!! ❤💞❤ Thank you for the update!! :)

Yes, I'm very happy Ginny is ok (even with a slightly deformed foot)! I didn't want to have to separate her from the flock. In the process, though, I did find out that there's a chicken vet in my area! So, I made an account with them (just in case)! I guess there's a silver lining there! 🩶

Yes, deformed is good enough if she's happy and enjoying life! :)

That's fabulous you have a chicken vet in your area!! It never hurts to get opinions, meds, any x-rays, etc... at some point you may need the vet!
