LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Glad to read I’m not delusional! I took her out in the sun for the photos, but normally she sits further back, where no direct light hits her. I have heeded your original advice on that one, and it seems to be working out as the new growth seems to be much greener!

Funny that you mention jaws, because that’s pretty much what I did to identify her! My guess while repotting was that she was a haworthia adjacent species, as her root structure and pup production are identical to haworthia. Well after repotting, I searched for “crocodile succulent” , and after filtering out some info, finally found the species. I admit that I have not yet done a deep dive, but their bloom seems to suggest that they are farther apart from the haworthia as I originally thought.

Right!? It very much reminded me of a “wild” succlent, not doing fabulous, but a survivor. I like the look!
She definitely has new growth coming, she probably feels better being out of the sun and is responding well to your care! If kept outside these are definitely shade only plants. And yours may green back up over time too. I kept my bowl of gals outside in the shade all last summer and they were a dark green by summers end. They have all lightened back up being inside. Now they get the gentlest of morning sun and then I move them away from direct sun. Keeps them a medium green shade which I like.

I do love the jaws on the "Crocodile succulent". 🤣 You should call him Jaws. :gig I have a Tiger Tooth Aloe named Jaws. :lau I think your plant will be a gorgeous specimen to keep!

Hmm, jaws, not a bad name at all! Would be the first of the succulents to get named, I think. Jaws it is!

I think I like the deep green colour, but I wouldn’t complain about anything. I just want it to grow big and produce a bunch of pups so I can get it into a terracotta pot like yours  !

Speaking of, more and more of the collection is now living in terracotta, and my first impressions are really positive!

I bought a new Haworthia!

Just kidding. It's the same one

(This is what it looked like before, like 3 weeks ago, I know I showed you already, but here's for reference:)

Hopefully it's supposed to look like that. I have only watered it once (bottom up), so hopefully she's okay. I think there's still a lot of organic material around the roots that I didn't really get rid of, so that's why I was asking. I'll just be sure to go easy on the watering until I know she's ready for it (leaves were getting squishy before I did water the first time.)

Thanks for the tips! That is a big help on what to look for! I think your experience and intuition may not be replicable here, but I will sure try to channel some of yours! Hopefully no one gets too attached to any of my plants, haha. They shall remain unnamed for now...

I like Jaws for yours. Jawsaphina for any female pups there, lol.

It won't take long, before you know it, in a few years your Haworthia will be monster like mine! 😁

Oh my goodness, gorgeous plant Jen! ❤️ I think it's more open because it's looking for more light? @fluffycrow probably knows more than I do on this however. But I do know from keeping plants under lights, when they open up, they are trying to get as much surface open to gather light. When they are tighly closed, they have enough.

I was thinking it was looking a little stretched out. That's good because I do have more space for it on the window sill (it is on the table next to the window because I am ignorant and still not speaking Haworthia yet.) Thanks so much!

That little snake plant baby is so cute! I have a snake plant, too, but no cute babies like that! (Just clumps directly to the side.) Mine's not variegated, though and needs a sunnier spot. I think yours has just the perfect amount of variegation! Very nice!

You obviously have done a lot more research into this than I have, but have you considered having the assistance of mycelium to improve soil quality and break down the fallen litter, twigs, cardboard and branches?
Yes! I think that will be part of the lasagna layers. Definitely an important component!

I see so much growth already, happy plant!

I do agree with TwoCrows, she seems like she’d enjoy a higher light environment. As your Haworthia make the transition for juvenile/recent pups to mother plants, you can expect them to lose their shape a bit. Especially mother plants that have had pups for years on end. But yes, a little more light and a little more water, and she should be good to go!

She seems to be loving your environment to be producing so many pups!
