LGBTQ+ Poultry Keepers

Thank you, @fluffycrow, @TwoCrows and @Sally PB :hugs. It feels weird getting consoled after being a dbag and compounding an already stressful situation, but hopefully I remember how it made me feel (or importantly, not just me feel). Sorry for oversharing. The whole situation has kind of eaten me up for the last couple weeks, and it wasn't really about the pickup. I guess i regret admitting my reaction to adversity can suck sometimes, but hopefully there's others out there who understand. I definitely strive to make others happy and not the opposite, so I don't really like when I don't get it right. Okay, you can delete my account, now, TwoCrows, haha.

I hope you all have a nice Tuesday!
Hindsight is my shadow. 😂 I regularly beat myself up for not responding to situations that required a different approach. So I get that and I'm sure many of us here do too. :hugs Our minds love to play games with our lives, deep breathing before reacting is usually what keeps us a bit more grounded. This thread is exactly that, a place to share, a place to find empathy and friendship. :hugs ❤️

Yes, oh I know everything will be fine as long as I try to keep in perspective what really matters. It's definitely not an excuse, but I feel like this year has worn me down a bit and my threshold isn't where it used or needs to be. Life is like that, though, and you just have to deal with it (and yes, breathing helps! Don't forget to breathe, haha.)

You mean plants, right?

I'm actually mildly embarrassed at the escalation of this (sorry cats) but it has been fun. You know, you tell your mom about your new plants then she decides to unload a whole bunch of hers on you (like that cane Begonia, wtf, lol) and then they go to California and take succulents from my sister's yard to bring to me and so of course I need more "hugs" lol. I got some fun ones, though, so I will try to give some updates/intros on some of my favorites so far. I want to try to make the set-up better more integrated and aesthetic, but this was just quick/cheap/easy shelving, (not pretty, WIP hopefully.)

Oh, and the first Haworthia I got (the cymbiformis) is flowering.
Nice plant shelves! ❤️ Are those Barrina lights? I have the 2ft versions on my shelves, my plants love them! All your plants look fabulous, 😍 congrats on the flowering Haworthia, they love to flower this time of year!

Yeah, they are the T8 Barrinas. Seemed like a decent option to go with 3' shelves. The plants that like direct light seem to grow really well under them! And I think the others like the spillover from the sides and the window. I'm pretty happy with the setup, but I definitely like the look of "decorating" with plants, but maybe someday I will build a heated greenhouse so I can move the shelves there. I think a sauna and a greenhouse would be nice... 💭🪴🌵🛀☀️.

Definitely put the sauna in the greenhouse so you can relax while staring at your plants. :p

One of the rescue chicks died this morning. It was the little black one. I'm thinking it was either too weak or something had been wrong with it to begin with and I didn't notice in time.
The other chick is doing well and is very attached to Chicken Nugget so I'll be keeping them together

For some reason this thread dropped from my alerts, I guess I am too infrequent around here..

So I had to bring my little rat terrior to the vet yesterday for his final appointment, I held him as he let out his last breath then cried like a baby in my truck afterwords.

I was so mad at the vet, she had the nerve to question my decision that was not hers to make, it was hard enough without that. And oh my dog the price! $302 and if I wanted his ashes back another 279

Max was a rescue, I got him from the pound 10 years ago after he had been adopted then returned. He was the worst dog I ever had but I miss him so much.

Oh, I'm so sorry! I totally understand how even the worst pets can leave huge holes in our hearts. Ten years is a long time! That totally sucks the vet made the situation worse, so I wish that went differently for you. I hope you're doing okay! :hugs

Oh, shoot. I wish that never happened! So hard to lose chicks! 💔

Great idea ! Our last house had a sauna, it was awesome. We had a walk-in basement, and I water-tighted a chest freezer and made a cold dip, so you could go from the sauna to the freezer. We also had an outdoor cast-iron cold dip, too, but the freezer was the best. I really miss that. That freezer is back to its original purposes, but I will definitely get one going again. I could do a cold dip and look out into the garden. It was lovely.

Hmm, I could definitely integrate the cold dip/changing foyer area with a lot of plants/make it a mini greenhouse. That might work really well!
