I get mostly pet quality with maybe 20% I feel good about as breeders, less than that as showers. Just kind of how it works especially when you haven't been linebreeding for many generations. I ended up with 3/10 this year that I really truly like from my main pen (also ended up with about 15 more out of a trio that I ended up culling all of + the parents) but am going to keep a couple more pullets out of my "good" hatch as backup breeders.
I don't currently sell live birds tho, just hatching eggs, which is opposite of what most serama breeders do. It’s better biosecurity and I also just don’t hatch enough to keep up with the pet market. And I’ve had people go on to breed pet quality birds they’ve gotten from me, rehome the very very ugly offspring, and say that they were my breeding
Keep in mind that I am breeding health first, temperament and type second. So I doubt anything you’d hatch from me would be a show winner, however they would still be good representations of the breed.
Also no guarantees on health, they’re a difficult breed and selecting for multiple traits at once is a slow slow process. I’m doing my best.
