Our 9 year old senior hen passed away sometime during the night

I am sorry, its difficult to lose these senior birds, they've been in the flock for so long.

Correction.
Something killed her.
The only reason I said she passed away, is because she was underneath this log/root thing that they can hide under.
My dad had removed her and said her head was gone.
What would be able to chew through hardware cloth though???? I'm a little confused on that part because there's a hole chewed through.
Isn't that predator proof?
It was the 1/4" hole size wire

I've seen rats do that. If they have enough hunger and time, or the mesh is old and rusty, or both...so sorry you lost your hen.

I discovered yesterday that, for the first the first time in about 10 years, my chickens have feather mites again. Oh joy.

We recently lost one of our Muscovy ducks. Not sure how it happened but I assume something took her because she's nowhere to be found.

Keep our senior cat in your thoughts. He'll be seeing the vet soon for new issues that have popped up.
He's been getting senior wet food added into his diet to help as it was recommended last time he saw the vet for his loss of weight.
Still hard to believe he'll be 16 years old in a few months.
