Lice again! Ugh!

I swear every time I get a new bird it has lice! I rescued 3 red sex links from someone and my parents forgot to check them... thankfully only they have it and didn't expose anyone else. Has anyone had this problem with chickens or other birds they get? It happened with a pheasant I got to. The guy said he was molting at the moment (I believed him). He seemed to have nice birds and it didn't look sick at all. Got it home put it with two hens then 2 weeks later his feathers were still a mess. Caught him and he was covered! Had to treat all my pheasants who were not happy to say the least. It's not that hard to treat! Why do people give/ sell birds with lice knowing they will infect the others flock?! I know they don't always know but you think they would at least check over the birds they are getting rid of! I know I need to be more vigilant... guess I'm to trusting of people and assume they are honest and are giving me healthy birds .

Some people wish just to get rid of their problems and still make a buck. like a used auto, you know it don't run right and you tell them it's not working well and your selling it as is no promises if you can even get it out of the driveway. and if the motor blows up 3 blocks away you got warned. same goes with anything that's used or alive....

Boy do I know what you mean! Have a nice flock of 9 and wanted to add a couple of hens after 2 had died. Bought 2 from a guy who owns 1,000 chickens. They are very nice birds but when I got them home they had lice. No biggie......have them separate from the flock, called the guy to give him a heads up. He says he was soooo upset and prides himself that his birds have never had any bugs....ever. Says he checked all his birds and they are all fine! Really? All 1,000 of them? He then suggests that after living at my house for less than 15 hours they got lice from me including the hen who has egg clusters at the base of her feathers. Kept pestering me....says he was trying to change my opinion and continued to blame me. It's just hard to figure folks out sometime
