Lice? First time.

Hi so when I was trying to figure out what breeds one of my girls had in her they said that she had lice... I really do not know what to do. I have spread DE all around the coop. Here is the picture of her. I just got the m 4 days ago... Did I do something to make them have lice? What is the best way to treat this?
Please help, I feel stupid that I did not research this more before getting some... :'(

No, they hate Krista's too, ha ha!

My birds just got lice two weeks ago. It's just something that happens. We live on a creek property with lots of birds flying by, and wild birds always have lice.

I treated my girls last week with Pestene Powder. I think in the US you can get Sevin Powder?

Anyway, I dusted them all liberally last week to kill the live lice, and then again 9 days later (today) to kill off the freshly hatched eggs.

I also put a layer of dust in their nesting boxes so when they sit down to lay it goes "whoosh!' up their rear ends and re-dusts them!

Treating lice is a pain, but not as hard as what I've heard mites are to deal with.
