Lice, lice and...you guessed it, MORE LICE!!!

Just keep in mind that using pesticides affects beneficial insects as well as our own health. It might not get into the eggs and meat but it is still poisoning an environment in which we are producing our food.

Oh my god that thing's an eye! I had no idea what it was, sorry.

Seriously, just water and dishsoap. Natural, quick, and easy. Make sure to move all the feathers all around. Lice drown! Take a blow drier outside with you and blow dry each one. You'll have to give two baths one week apart. Also put a dust bath in a kitty litter pan in the coop with some D.E. and wood (stress the wood part) ash for them to bathe in. All natural and no egg waste!

I had this same problem this past summer, if you go back thru my posts you'll find it. I got a lot of snark about it but clearly it's not just me. You're one of several that's had the same problem. I treated my birds more aggressively than it sounds like you want to just yet, but what I did was #1, treat every bird with a drop of puppy frontline, 1 drop under each wing and 1 by the gland on the tail. Then I dusted each with Sevin. Cleaned All of the bedding from the coop, sanitized, dusted everything in the coop with Sevin, replaced the bedding everywhere (nestboxes too) and sprinkled Sevin in all of that as well. I didn't have to redust, I didn't find a single bug the next day. The doves are still around, if it wasn't the chickens they'd still be in my garden beds.. but I just keep the girls up on the frontline (or revolution, it's a bit cheaper) and all is well.

Sevin dust has nipped my lice and mite problems in the bud. I just fill a piece of panty hose with it, tie the end, and use it like a powder poof on the bird. Redusted in a week, dusted the coops/bedding, and that's it.

I just dusted my girls and everything in their coop last night (MESSY job!)
However, I thought the Sevin dust container said not to dust nests, so I didn't do the egg boxes..

And, am I correct in understanding that the dust does not get into the eggs through the bird? This is mainly why I'm avoiding Frontline.
