"Lice-Ridden Rat Magnets Who Eat Maggots And Cockroaches"

Responsible backyard chicken owners are the best response and antidote to this type of one-sided, intentionally biased hype. I have a dozen hens. I'm not "infested" with rats or flies, and I have no odor problem because the chicken area is well maintained. This is a battle that must be waged and won one neighbor at a time. Education is a powerful tool. Sharing the bounty also helps.

We have all stepped in 'poo', chicken poo washes off with water and leaves no scent, cat and dog poo lingers even after washing with soap. Plus my chickens don't bark at midnight and have cat fights at 2am. The only time I had a problem with mice was when they were building a new set of tract homes a couple of streets over. Also, many of my neighbors have dogs and cats and I don't see them doing as much to control the fly problem as I do (which were here long before my chickens).

Excellent post! Do you mind if I use your "definitions" when talking to snooty chicken-bashers?

We may have to come up with one for rabbits now
